Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

As with any emergency, when a child’s life is medically unstable and needs urgent lifesaving care, it’s vital that the emergency care team responds in an appropriate and timely manner. Distinguishing a critically ill or injured pediatric patient from one with less urgency is crucial.

Thousands of children suffer a cardiac arrest each year in the U.S. When a child experiences a critical injury or disease, a provider’s reaction time and response can mean the difference between life and death.

PALS training prepares healthcare professionals in the pediatric emergency setting to rapidly assess the clinical condition of pediatric patients in severe distress while delivering appropriate interventions through best practice techniques and expert knowledge.

PALS, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support, is a certification training for healthcare professionals who are likely to respond to emergency situations involving children and infants. Classes revolve around teaching lifesaving interventions to healthcare providers in emergency and critical care.

American Heart Association (AHA) Approved PALS Training and Certification

RC Health Services is an American Heart Association-approved provider of PALS certification. It’s essential that healthcare workers get their PALS training only from AHA providers who only use advanced life support courses that utilize the latest AHA treatment guidelines for emergency cardiovascular care and CPR.

These guidelines were developed through clinical research, patient studies, an analysis of protocols, and expert reviews and opinions.

The instructional materials in our classes meet the course requirements for AHA-approved PALS certification, as well as BLS and ACLS.

Our RC Health Services’ PALS certification course is aimed at assisting our healthcare providers in developing effective skills and expert knowledge to optimally manage seriously ill pediatric patients.

What Will Our PALS Course Teach You?

The PALS courses at RC Health Services instruct its students on providing emergency life or death care for infants and younger children. Advanced life support treatment is different for infant and child emergencies than for adults. It’s instrumental that pediatric patients receive the appropriate medical response during an emergency.

RC Health Services utilizes a combination of methods to teach and reinforce PALS concepts, including the assessment of the pediatric patient, basic life support in children and infants, treatment algorithms, and results-driven resuscitation methods.

Our AHA Heartcode PALS science-based curriculum course offering will teach you how to identify and prevent cardiac arrest in pediatric patients, and utilize eSimulation technology, allowing you to evaluate and treat the pediatric patient in a virtual medical setting.

The resuscitation training classes describe inpatient hospital scenarios that allow the student to interact to optimize learning. Following the eSimulations, our students receive virtual debriefings to reinforce the concepts learned.

RC Health’s PALS class will help you master the following:

  • Early cardiac, shock, and respiratory recognition and intervention
  • Identify pediatric patients who need immediate intervention
  • Distinguish respiratory distress from respiratory failure
  • Understand the difference between decompensated and compensated shock
  • Apply and perform American Heart Association approved Infant CPR and Basic Life Support
  • Application of Child CPR and AED use
  • Distinguish the difference between stable and unstable pediatric patients with arrhythmias
  • Manage aftercare in post-cardiac arrest in children and infants
  • Maximize team dynamics in the resuscitation setting

Who Should Have a PALS Certification?

Anyone planning to work in an emergency setting should undergo rigorous PALS training and certification. This includes first responders, EMTs and EMS workers, and healthcare workers who plan to work in emergency medicine, critical care, and intensive care units.

PALS Class Taught By Healthcare Professionals

Health professionals currently working in these settings should also get PALS certification if they haven’t already. Paramedics, nurses, and physicians are also required to maintain their PALS certification and recertify before it lapses.

As an approved American Heart Association Training Center, we provide our students with expert-level instruction in our PALS class and other advanced life support courses every healthcare professional needs.

You’ll learn from the best in their field as our teachers work as paramedics, nurses, and EMTs. They have real-world knowledge and experience in the pediatric emergency medical field.
